Mercer County is bordered by Crawford County on the north, Lawrence and Butler counties on the south, Venango County on the east, and the State of Ohio on the west. The “Shenango Valley” comprises the Cities of Sharon and Hermitage, plus numerous small communities in close proximity to the Interstate 376 corridor, I-80, and the Pennsylvania/Ohio State line. As a result of the 2020 census, Mercer County was removed from what was commonly known as the “Youngstown MSA ” in 2025. This area is well located with respect to the following major cities: Erie, Pennsylvania (approximately 75 miles north), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (approximately 65 miles south) and Youngstown, Ohio (approximately 15 miles southwest). 

Mercer County occupies a strategic corridor between Pittsburgh and Cleveland, giving it strong industrial and logistics demand. The county is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman MSA and has historically supported metalworking, steel fabrication, and light manufacturing. Sharon and Hermitage represent the county's primary commercial nodes, with retail, medical office, and service industry concentration along the Route 62 and I-80 corridors. The county is also home to a growing healthcare sector, with Sharon Regional Medical Center as a major employer. Agricultural land, including dairy and crop operations, is prevalent in rural areas. Mercer County is also undergoing reassessment activity, creating elevated demand for commercial appraisal services tied to assessment appeals.
